It’s amazing how quickly people become creatures of habit.
When Facebook first came out in 2005, there was no moaning and groaning about the layout, and yet we still had to find where things were located. Then, a year later, everything suddenly changed. The homepage was no longer filled with large boxes but was much more compact. And year after year, it all keeps changing! I mean, what are Mark Zuckerberg and his crew thinking?
Well, obviously all of these changes worked because there is still buzz on the Internet about the most recent 2009 changes. Zuckerberg and his team are loving the hype and media frenzy that the changes have caused. While some users are not happy with the changes, they are still talking about them - and that’s great for Facebook.
After each change, we fuss over the modifications for a couple of months - then we forget what the “old” Facebook looked like. In short, while it can be a hassle to locate the new placements of walls, info, photos, invites, etc., it is important to remember that after an adjustment period, we’ll get used to the “new” Facebook.
Come on people, loosen up, roll with the changes and be glad that there’s a place for everyone to connect! After all, where else can we spend hours of free time and not realize it?
Check out the Facebook Retrospective photo album. It’s pretty cool!
Sorry! This entry is no longer accepting comments.
haha! I’m totally guilty of this! I was so annoyed with the most recent changes - I couldn’t figure our how to see my new friend requests. Argh!
I like this one so far, although I honestly don’t see much difference. I’m surprised they’re showing less on the news feed, because I’m honestly not going as much as before (good thing for me though!)
Also in regards to the news feed, people hated that originally, but now we’re seeing a lot of outcry that its functionality has been decreased.
@ Frances: I am still looking for where things are, but it is just part of the adjustment period!
@ Zach: I do like that we can hide things we dislike on the news feed!
@Frances: Wait, friend requests? You have friend requests?! I’m confused.
@Mark: I understand why you are confused. A friend request happens when someone wants to be your friend, so you’ve probably never seen one before.
But just keep your eyes peeled and you *might* eventually get a friend request…but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Why, after repeated attempts on my part, my parents have yet to join facebook is beyond me.
Read my status! and don’t call me until you’ve read it… :)
@Mark: I think you just got burned by Fran :)
I have to say I honestly HATE the new layout… from a grid based viewpoint there isn’t nearly enough whitespace between the columns.
Everything is super cluttered and it’s difficult to distinguish what you’re actually looking at, especially when you view someone’s profile… whatever happened to the wall being a place for just comments.
I shouldn’t have to filter stuff just to get to what I want. There’s a simple principle in UI design, don’t make me think.
Now it looks like I’m commenting on my own wall and my status updates look like comments and my comments look like updates, ahhh.
I could go on, but it doesn’t matter, what’s done is done and you’re right everyone we’ll get use to it.
PS. I wish Facebook was NOT open to everyone, exclusivity can be a good thing.
PPS. They should have brought back Fb Layout V1 as an April Fools joke.
@ Ken: I loved the PPS - that would have been a great way to cause mass chaos!
